This summer, Ibiza will regulate the number of tourist cars, with a limit of 20,168 vehicles per day. Between restrictions for tourists, quotas for rentals and an entry tax, the island is tightening the screws on traffic.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This summer, Ibiza is going all out to regulate tourist cars traffic. After reducing the speed limit to 30km\/h in Ibiza town<\/a>, another drastic measure is about to be adopted for cars on the island. From the 1st of June and throughout the summer, no more than 20,168 cars per day will be allowed on the island. This drastic measure is intended to limit the influx of tourists and prevent the streets from becoming endless traffic jams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of these vehicles, 16,000 will be reserved for car rental companies, while another 4,108 will be allocated to tourists arriving by ferry with their own cars. Those hoping to enter the island without restrictions will have to pay: an entry tax will be applied, although the amount is still unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A target of 17,600 cars by 2030<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The restriction will be in place until September 30th, when Ibiza’s roads are at their most congested. The aim? To avoid saturating the infrastructure and reduce the nuisance caused by the traffic explosion. Last year, no less than 150,666 vehicles arrived on the island, a 34.2% increase over 2019. At the height of summer, July and August saw almost 42,718 more cars pass through, a jump of 47.5% in four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campers and caravans will also have to show proof of a reservation at an authorized campsite to access the island. An exception will be made for residents of Formentera: 60 vehicles per day will be allowed to cross the strait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the plan doesn’t stop there. The limit of 20,168 vehicles could be gradually reduced over the years. Within five years, Ibiza hopes to reduce the number of permits to 17,600, a reduction of 2,500 cars. A measure that could change mobility on the island. To the delight of locals and tourists looking for more tranquility on Ibiza’s sunny streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
