The end of the famous drums ritual on Benirrás beach in Ibiza

No more mesmerizing beats at sunset: the iconic drums of Benirrás in Ibiza, symbol of a free and festive community, come to an end. A page is turning on the island’s most spiritual beach.

Silence is about to descend where souls once vibrated. In Ibiza Benirrás beach, this magical cove on the north coast of Ibiza, the drums will come to an end. A decades-old ritual, where every Sunday, hundreds—sometimes thousands—of people gathered to experience a moment suspended in time, feet in the sand and heads in the groove. But this year, the authorities have decided to enforce a regulation that had previously been more or less tolerated. The result: increased police checks, confiscated instruments, and the end of an era.

The end of a typical Ibiza tradition

The sound of the djembes carried much more than just a rhythm: it was the heartbeat of Ibiza. That of a bohemian, vibrant, unifying spirit. Each sunset transformed the beach into an open-air stage, with the rock of Cap Bernat as a backdrop, a majestic witness to this cosmic celebration. But success eventually overshadowed the dream: 3,000 people in a cove also means traffic jams, trash, and exasperated neighbors. Between spiritual quest and tourist drift, the balance has been broken.

And cala Benirrás isn’t the only one having to turn down the volume: Sa Trinxa, a musical institution on Las Salinas beach, must also silence its turntables. The legendary chill and electro vibe is now outlawed in the name of protecting the natural park.

Between preserving nature and stifling Ibiza’s musical soul, the island is searching for a new tempo. A little less loud, perhaps. But still just as vibrant? For some Ibiza will never be the same anymore, while it would be as precious as ever for others. Future will say it to us!
