That’s the challenge facing local tourism officials, who are actively working to create a direct flight between the USA and Ibiza. Currently, American travelers have to stop in Madrid, London, Paris or Palma de Mallorca before setting foot on the island. Too long, too complicated. So why not simplify the journey and attract this high-profile clientele?
A direct flight between Ibiza and the USA…but from which city ?
Juan Miguel Costa, Ibiza’s tourism director, said at the ITB in Berlin, according to Diario de Ibiza: « This project won’t happen overnight, but discussions are progressing« . Strategic cities such as New York, Miami and Atlanta are already being targeted, and the major American hotel chains present on the island – Marriott, Hyatt, Six Senses – are pushing for it. They know that the American market is a financial manna. In 2023, the average American tourist will spend 2,024 euros during a stay in Spain, 60% more than the average foreign visitor. A potential bonanza for Ibiza.
At least one direct flight per week
The local authorities are also counting on strategic partnerships with Expedia, Booking.com and Amadeus. The aim is to increase the island’s visibility on these platforms and stimulate demand. Searches for Ibiza by American travelers continue to rise, proving the growing interest in this mythical destination.
With direct flights, Ibiza could become the new hotspot for Americans in search of heavenly beaches and wild nights. All that remains is to convince the airlines… and be patient until the first planes land on the magical island. Maybe American tourists couldn’t enjoy the openings of the most popular beach clubs of Ibiza but they will be here sooner than we think…
