Spotlight on the Balearic Islands: five restaurants from Ibiza are ranked among the best in Europe according to the Opinionated About Dining 2025 guide. confirming their place at the top of the European gastronomic scene.
Let’s face it: Ibiza isn’t just an island of parties and hypnotic sunsets. It also knows how to play with its saucepans. And not just any old way, five Ibiza restaurants have just been singled out in the OAD 2025 guide, that culinary bible which selects the best places in Europe. The result? A shot of recognition for Iberian chefs, and clear proof that the Balearic Islands cook as well as they dream and have some of the best restaurants.
Two Ibiza places part of the Europe’s finest category
Sublimotion by Paco Roncero (Playa d’en Bossa) is one to have made it into the category of Europe’s finest. Located in Playa d’en Bossa, this futuristic restaurant blends art, technology and gastronomy in a unique multi-sensory show. Alongside it, Casa Jondal (Cala Jondal) sublimates seafood with a Mediterranean finesse that smells of sea and sun, all with its feet in the sand of Cala Jondal.
Three others awarded for their authenticity
But Iberian gastronomy is also about character and authenticity. And that’s where Es Xarcu (Es Cubells), El Bigotes (cala Mastella) and Juan y Andrea (Formentera) come in, with seafood recipes, picture-postcard landscapes and love of tradition. The first, on the southern coast, serves fish with its eyes in the waves. The second, El Bigotes, still delights with its wood-fired bullit de peix, just like in the old days. And the third, on Ses Illetes in Formentera, offers a table with feet in the water and flavors to match.
So, yes, Spain shines with its 45 addresses in the OAD guide’s European top 150. But Ibiza and Formentera set their own tempo: that of sunny, precise cuisine, always inspired by the sea. So, between two DJ sets, you can also treat yourself to a culinary slap in the face.
